White Sox Manager Robin Ventura Ejected

whitesox2CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura was ejected in the fourth inning Wednesday night by home plate umpire Alfonso Marquez for arguing an interference call on Melky Cabrera.

It is Ventura’s first ejection of the season and his 11th as Chicago manager.

On the disputed play, Cabrera was batting with Adam Eaton on first base. With Eaton attempting to steal, Cabrera struck out swinging as Eaton slid in safely at second base.

But Marquez ruled that Cabrera interfered with Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli because Cabrera’s follow through carried him over the plate and obstructed the throw. Under the interference rule, Eaton is automatically out.

The White Sox, who entered the game with a five-game losing streak, were trailing 3-0 at that point. Eaton was their first base runner.
