Knoxville Discusses Appropriations for Fiscal Year with Major Projects Planned

7-28-14 Knoxville City CouncilLast night the Knoxville City Council got together to discuss appropriations for this fiscal year in Knoxville.

A few big projects adjusted appropriations compared to last year, including re-doing Division Street, The city retaking control of the water, and the new Love’s Travel Stop coming to town.

Legal services went up $5,000, Capital Construction in the water fund increased by $185,000 and sewer fund capital improvements went up by $250,000 in association with Love’s.

2nd Ward Alderman Dennis Maurer tells WGIL that they met last night to sit down and discuss suggestions that will be presented to the public at a later meeting.

“We wanted to get this done now, so at the next council meeting we can have these available to the public,” says Maurer. “It’d be the first reading on the 6th of July, and then on the 18th of July if there are any changes that need to be made, those can take place. When it comes down to the 18th, we will finally vote on if these are our appropriations for the fiscal year, because I believe we have to have this done by August 1st.”

Other fund increases include the police fund building repair and maintenance by about $18,000 and a major decrease was in water meters, which went down $375,000.
