Judge Orders Chicago Man Accused of Cons to Halt Business

CHICAGO (AP) – A Cook County judge has ordered a Chicago man accused of scamming more than 100 people over several decades to stop operating mortgage and home repair businesses.
Judge David Atkins granted a preliminary injunction against Mark Diamond on Wednesday.

The Illinois Attorney General’s office first sued Diamond more than 30 years ago, accusing him of taking money for repairs that were never done. Attorney General Lisa Madigan says Diamond has repeatedly changed up his scheme and continued to scam people. She says most of his victims are poor, older and African-American.

Her office sought the injunction as part of a lawsuit filed against Diamond in 2009.

Neither Diamond nor his attorney, Dennis Both, could be reached Saturday for comment on the court’s order. Both previously called the proceedings a “circus.”
