Monmouth College Joins Initiative to Eliminate Hunger Worldwide

Monmouth CollegeMonmouth College has joined with over 70 universities worldwide in an effort to help build sustainable food security for the world.Dean of Faculty and Vice President of Academic Affairs, David Timmerman says students at Monmouth College are engaged in this initiative in the classroom as well.

Timmerman tells WGIL that the progam, PUSH, works to train students to become future leaders in eliminating hunger.

“PUSH is a national, probably international, organization, it stands for Presidents United to Solve Hunger, and it was begun, I believe, by some faculty members and others at the University of Auburn,” says Timmerman. “It’s a coalition of schools and universities that are seeking to train up the next generation of leaders through college programs that would help with the large issue of food security or world hunger.”

Timmerman says Monmouth College has brought on three new faculty members for the cause that will begin this fall. The faculty members represent biology, anthropology and economics to conduct research and teach students about food production, distribution and ethical issues.
