Penn, MAry Agnes PhotoMary Agnes Penn, 96 of Abingdon, died at 6:05 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2015 at her home. 

 She was born March 15, 1919 in Nolan, Arkansas, the daughter of Joseph Fidelis Reed and Anna Marie Zimmer Reed.

She married Johnny Thurman Penn on June 10, 1939 in St. Paul’s Cathedral in Pocahontas.  He preceded her in death on April 17, 2002.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, four grandchildren; three brothers; one sister, one half-brother and three half-sisters.

 Agnes is survived by her children, Marilyn Pierce of Galesburg, Don (Beth) Penn of Normal, Ann Saksenberg of Bloomington and Carole (Vernon) French of rural Cameron; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

 She grew up in Arkansas and had lived in Abingdon since 1948.  She was a homemaker and she also worked as a cook for 40 years at the Abingdon District 217 school cafeteria.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon and the Legion of Mary.  She enjoyed cooking and sewing and spending time with her family.

 Rosary and Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon.  Rev. William Miller I.C. will officiate.  Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with her Eulogy given by her son Don at 6:45 p.m.
