Authorities responded to the 1000 block of Lyman Street at 9:57 a.m., to battle a fire that resulted in a complete loss of a mobile home that was reportedly unoccupied.

That’s according to Galesburg Fire Chief Tom Simkins, who says firefighters took extra caution, due to a loose power line that is believed to have broken near the rear of the trailer.

The fire was the second of the day, following a destroyed single stall garage fire on the 800th block of South Cedar Street that took place in the early morning hours. Authorities responded at approximately 5:27 a.m.

Simkins added that the garage was a loss as well. The garage and attached residence were also vacant according to authority reports. Simkins says some heat damage could be seen on both the attached house, and the house directly northwest.

To this point, no information can be confirmed as to whether or not the two fires were connected or not.

Police are continuing to investigate.
