Galesburg Man Awaits Arraignment for Liquor Store Burglary

knox county courthouseA Galesburg man who is accused of breaking into a local liquor store will now face arraignment, following yesterday’s preliminary hearing in Knox County Circuit Court.

19-year-old Cody M. Wilkins was reported breaking into the Knox Discount Liquor store on Henderson Street during early morning hours of June 14th.Upon arrival, authorities were forced to chase the man, who fled from the scene on a bicycle.

Prior to his arrest, Galesburg Police found $1,000 in stolen merchandise ranging from glass blown pipes, to cigarettes, and alcohol. With the exception of the bottles, items were tagged for sale.

Wilkins reported to police that he was forced into the act in order to pay a drug debt.

Recently, Wilkins had his bond reduced from $30,000 to $10,000 due to a ruling by Judge Thomas Ewing.

Currently, Wilkins is accused of burglary, criminal damage to property between $300 and $10,000 and resisting a peace officer. He will return to court July 29th, for a 9:30 a.m. hearing.
