Police Investigate Arrested Arsonist in Relation to Three Fires

galesburgpolicelogoThe Galesburg Police Department is continuing to investigate an individual who was arrested yesterday, following a string of early morning fires.

32-year-old Donald Denniston remains in Knox County Jail on charges of arson and criminal trespass.

Authorities responded to the 1000 block of Lyman Street at 9:57 a.m., to battle a fire that resulted in a complete loss of a trailer that was reportedly unoccupied.

That’s according to Galesburg Fire Chief Tom Simkins, who says firefighters took extra caution, due to a loose power line that was found inside of the trailer.

The fire was the second of the day, following a destroyed single stall garage fire on the 800 block of South Cedar Street.

Authorities responded to that fire at approximately 5:27 a.m. Simkins added that the garage was a loss as well. The garage and attached residence were also vacant.

According to police reports, authorities were alerted of Denniston’s behavior approximately a week and a half ago. Fire Investigator John Sietz was notified by an individual who believed Denniston had been involved in a fire that took place at 386 North Cedar Street.

To this point, no information can be confirmed as to whether or not yesterday’s fires were connected or not, however, according to Captain Rodney Riggs, an investigation into that very matter is on-going at this time.
