Caves, Donald PhotoDonald L. Caves, 84 of Galesburg, died at 11:52 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2015 at his home.

He was born on March 21, 1931 in Greenbush, the son of Martie and Beulah Simmons Caves.  He married Fern Bonnett.

Don is survived by his children, Linda (Chris) Hawkinson of Galesburg and Michael (Kathy) Caves of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Tina (Brenton) Carr, Chad (Christine) Hawkinson, Jared (Heather) Hawkinson, Michelle (Jeff) McCarthy and Justin Caves; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest Caves of Galesburg and Martin Caves of Quincy; and one sister, Mable LeFevre of Elmhurst.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martie Caves and Beulah Simmons Caves Stegall, and three sisters, Cleta Rogers, Norma Floyd and Edna Mae VanVelsor.

He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1949.  He worked at Walters Brothers Motorcycle Shop in Galesburg in the 1950’s & 60’s.  He and his wife later owned and operated Galesburg Triumph & Yamaha Motorcycle Shop.  He worked at Butler Manufacturing for 20 years before retiring from there.  He also owned and operated Caves Auction Service for many years and most recently auctioneered for the Grand Auction Barn in Galesburg.  He attended First Christian Church in Galesburg.  He was a past member of the Galesburg Motorcycle Club and enjoyed racing motorcycles in his earlier years.  He liked to dance and have a good time with his family and friends.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.  Rev. Martha-Jean Fitch will officiate.  Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
