Little League Officials Say They Take Eligibility Seriously

CHICAGO (AP) — Little League International officials say they take matters of eligibility seriously following word of a lawsuit filed by a former Chicago Little League team.

An attorney for Jackie Robinson West announced the lawsuit Wednesday. It claims the governing improperly stripped the team of its national title.

Little League International stripped the team of its U.S. championship in February after an investigation showed team officials falsified local league boundaries to add ineligible players.

The team’s lawsuit says the governing body never notified it of possible violations before taking the title away. It also says Little League International has for months refused to hand over documentation explaining its decision.

A statement from Little League International says the group takes eligibility seriously, but hasn’t reviewed the lawsuit and declines to comment on it.
