Illinois State Geological Survey Gets New Director

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Illinois has a new state geologist.

Richard C. Berg has been appointed as permanent director of the Illinois State Geological Survey, which researches earth science issues and manages the state’s geological data, including maps.

The survey is part of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois.

Berg has worked at ISGS since 1974 and was chief scientist when he was named interim director last year.

Brian D. Anderson is interim executive director of the Prairie Research Institute. He says Berg helped bring attention to issues such as flooding, sinkholes, earthquakes and climate change.
