Chicago Celebrates Official Opening of Expanded Riverwalk

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago has celebrated the official opening of an expanded Chicago Riverwalk with live music, food and family activities.

The project added three more blocks to the pedestrian pathway on the south bank of the Chicago River. It will offer dining, live entertainment, biking, river cruises and kayak and boat rentals.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel said at Saturday’s event that Chicago has reclaimed part of the city that had been forgotten and turned it into a new recreational frontier.

After a final phase of construction beginning this summer, the Riverwalk will stretch from Lakeshore Drive to the Lake Street Bridge in the heart of downtown.
