Illinois Man Makes Most of Annual Show of ‘fireballs’

ARTHUR, Ill. (AP) — Larry Schlabach has only been making fireworks a little over a decade. But he’s gotten into pyrotechnics in a big way.Really big.

Schlabach puts on what he calls “The End of the World Fireball” show on the weekend before July 4th every year in Arthur in eastern Illinois. The small town is about 45 miles southwest of Champaign.

Schlabach told The News-Gazette in Champaign that the show is the most exciting three minutes of his year.

And it’s filled with what he calls fireballs.

Schlabach got his start after a 2003 trip to Walt Disney World. He says their fireworks were awesome and made him want to make his own.

Now the show in Arthur draws more than 10,000 people. This year’s was Saturday night.
