LEAP Event to Honor Law Enforcement at Lake Storey

Local law enforcement will be praised for their work today at the Lake Storey Pavilion.

The Law Enforcement Appreciation Picnic, or LEAP, will take place for the first year in order to honor those who serve their communities on a daily basis.

According to Coordinator Patrick Harlan, the idea came about this past April. Harlan tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL, that with the bad wrap authorities seem to get in today’s society, the event is to show support.

“We had a meeting together, and decided with all of the unrest going on with law enforcement, that we’re really blessed to have the community we have with our law enforcement,” says Harlan. “We just worked together and decided it was time to host a law enforcement appreciation with all of the hard work that they put into everything. I think it’s important to give them a hand, and thank them for what they do.”

Grilled items will all be provided to visitors. Games such as volleyball, a home-run derby, and pull-up competition are slated to take place as well.

Events start a 2 p.m. and will go until dusk. The event is free and open to the public.
