Hunigan to “Stay Involved” with Knox County Board

John HunniganThe newest member of the Knox County Board says he is looking to keep the interests of Knox County residents as his top priority.

That’s according to Democrat John Hunigan, who officially took over for the outgoing Russell Nelson this past Wednesday.

Hunigan got his feet wet politically this past November–running for County Clerk against Scott Erickson, losing the race.

However, the incoming board member remained active. Hunigan currently sits on the Galesburg Community Relations Commission, and has worked in the community alongside the Boys & Girls Club.

Following swear in last week, Hunigan told WGIL, that he will keep the budget in mind with each decision.

“One of the things that is really important to me, is that we have to look at the budget, but we also have to make sure that the things that we do are in the best interest of the people in Knox County,” says Hunigan. “The person who I am replacing, Russ Nelson, is very pro-labor, and I am as well. One of the things that was on the agenda (at the meeting) was the prevailing wage, and I am absolutely for that. We have to also keep in mind that we have a budget to keep.”

Hunigan now sits as the representative of the second district. He was voted in unanimously with no objection from the Republican side.
