Clerk at Chicago-Based Court New President of National Body

CHICAGO (AP) — The clerk for the Chicago-based federal court has been sworn in as president of an influential national clerks association.

Thomas Bruton will serve a two-year term as president of the nearly 1,000-member Federal Court Clerks Association. Bruton has served as clerk at the U.S. District Court for northern Illinois since 2012

Among the missions of the 93-year-old association is to advocate for the independence of the judiciary. The body also promotes ways to make courthouses nationwide as efficient as possible.

The chief U.S. district judge for northern Illinois, Ruben Castillo, heralded Bruton’s election to the presidency of the association. He says it demonstrates Bruton’s “national status as a court administrator with great vision.”
