Alton Looks To Relocate Holiday Fireworks After Flooding

ALTON, Ill. (AP) — Flooding on the Mississippi River is forcing Alton city officials to find another venue for their July Fourth holiday weekend fireworks show.

The Alton Telegraph reports that city leaders are still planning a Friday night fireworks show but must relocate after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said a riverfront site in West Alton, Missouri is unsafe after recent heavy rains.

River flooding forced Alton to cancel its July Fourth holiday fireworks show in 2008. Flooding has also prompted officials in nearby Grafton to postpone their planned holiday fireworks display this year.
