More Cars Expected on Illinois Tollway This July Fourth

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Tollway in the northern part of the state will be more crowded this July Fourth.

The agency expects nearly 6 million vehicles to use the system between Thursday and Sunday. That’s a 7 percent increase from last year.

The busiest driving day is expected to be Thursday with nearly 2 million vehicles.

To keep the extra traffic moving, the Tollway says it will restrict construction work.

The Illinois State Police will increase patrols to target those speeding, driving under the influence and using cellphones without hands-free devices.
