Dick Ralston passed away at the age of 84 this past Tuesday.

Ralston was the longtime owner-operator of Ralston-Hanna Garden Center, later becoming the Ralston Garden Center in 1989.

Longtime friend and former employee at a previous business Gary Nichols tells WGIL, that Ralston was willing to help anyone in need.

“Dick was very knowledgeable on any type of agricultural or any type of gardening need,” says Nichols. “From evergreens, to flowers, shrubbery, and insects–stuff like that. People called him all the time. He was a very personable fellow, and probably one of the best friends I ever had.”

Ralston also served as a radio personality. He would occasionally share the microphone with Jack Larson and Eddie Gale on WGIL.

The Galesburg native was involved in various other services. He was a long time board member at KCCDD, as well as an active member serving the Galesburg Tree Commission.

Nichols went on to say that Ralston was “one of the best guys he had ever met.”

Funeral services for the deceased will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church beginning at 10 a.m.
