Cab Driver Charged with Endangerment After Teen Leaves Camp

WATERLOO, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois cab driver has been charged with misdemeanor child endangerment after a 13-year-old girl went missing after being dropped at an overnight church summer camp.

Monroe County authorities found JaTe’a Frank of Mount Vernon early Tuesday in a wooded area about 100 yards from the entrance to Camp Wartburg near Waterloo. She attended the camp earlier this summer but was not registered to return.

The Belleville News-Democrat  reports the driver, who wasn’t identified, told police he should have notified authorities when the teen left her belongings in the cab and ran away.

Monroe County Sheriff Neal Rohling said the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the circumstances behind the girl’s 24-hour disappearance. She remained hospitalized Thursday, although authorities did not reveal any injuries.
