Library Board Talks District 205 Agreement and Financial Gifts

1-8-15 Library BoardThe Galesburg Public Library Board of Trustees met yesterday afternoon and discussed finances and property acquisition.

The Friends of the Library organization helped the library by purchasing items from their wish list, which Director Harriet Zipfel says equals roughly $3,000.

The library also received a gift of $1,000 from ex-board member Wendel Hunigan, which they plan to use for a legacy gift to the staff of the library.

Zipfel mentioned briefly in the meeting that they have re-drafted the agreement with District 205 to allow non-resident students to obtain a library card.

Zipfel tells WGIL that the District 205 School board had issues with the compensation aspect of the agreement.

“It was in compensation,” says Zipfel. “They were basically concerned about the wording of it, that it might be turned into a monetary reimbursement, or, you owe us services in ex-amount of money–which is not the intention at all.”

Zipfel says the agreement is still in the drafting stage, but told board members that she anticipates the District 205 School Board to accept the agreement at their next meeting.

The Board of Trustees discussed property acquisition in a closed session, but they did appoint board members Guy Cahill and Roger Williamson to act as liaisons with Century 21.
