SIU Deals With 2 Vacancies Among 3 Top Spots

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — The Southern Illinois University system could have two of its top three posts vacant when school starts this summer.

Julie Furst-Bowe resigned last week as chancellor of the SIU-Edwardsville campus. SIU President Randy Dunn is already filling in as Carbondale-campus chancellor because of a death in November.

Dunn told the (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan that he will recommend identifying interim candidates for Edwardsville from which the board of trustees can choose so that someone is in the job by the start of classes.

He suggested that the Carbondale chancellor’s post could be filled by a short-term appointment because “we don’t have the luxury of being in maintenance mode right now.”

Furst-Bowe took a job as vice president of instruction at a Wisconsin technical school.
