Thousands Gather For Big Bang Boom Fireworks Show on Fourth of July

BBB #2Sounds of fireworks could be heard last night at Lake Storey in Galesburg.

Thousands gathered throughout the afternoon and evening for the annual Fourth of July Big Bang Boom celebration. Weather remained clear throughout the day, with temps in the low 80’s. The WGIL and Laser sponsored event is the largest fireworks attraction in the area. A synchronized soundtrack paired with the show, which was heard lakeside and on both stations.

The U.S. Army was out this year as well. Visitors explored a 60-foot-long AS2 Special Operations Semi-truck, complete with a number of simulators.

Staff Sergeant Jonathan Blanton told WGIL yesterday afternoon that the event was successful for the service.

“We’ve had a steady influx of people come in and out,” says Blanton. “We’ve been getting a lot of good interest and leads–men and women who are interested in serving. It’s been pretty successful this year.”BBB #1

Visitors also showed their support by signing a banner that was given to troops at the end of the night.
