DeJaynes, Ronald PhotoRonald R. DeJaynes, 68 of Abingdon, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 2, 2015.Ron was born October 6, 1946 in Galesburg, the son of Orville and Geraldine Curtis DeJaynes.

His parents preceded in death as did one brother, Jim “Peckerhead” DeJaynes.

Ron is survived by his sister, Virginia (Michael) Castle of St. Augustine and his brother, Bill (Jackie) DeJaynes of Abingdon.  He is also survived by many cousins, several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and even great-great nieces and nephews and two more on the way.

Ron lived his whole life in Abingdon, except when he served in Vietnam with the Army from 1966-1967.

Ron was known to many as the Coca-Cola guy, as his entire home was in Coke décor.  He never married nor had kids, so he spent his money on Coca-Cola memorabilia.  Also, many of his family and friends were on the look-out for something that he may not of had in his collection.

In his younger years, Ron enjoyed bowling, camping at the Knox County Sportsman’s Club, playing bingo, and going to the river boats.  He liked to bake and even made wedding cakes.  He also liked the poker machines at the legion and bowling alley.

He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 and tended bar there part-time and enjoyed going to the card drawings.

Ron worked and retired from Admiral/Maytag after working there for over 30 years.  He will be missed by his many friends and loving family.  Ron put on his “Big Grouchy Front”, but that was to hide his “BIG SOFT HEART”.  He was always there if you needed him.

Ron’s family would like to especially thank a special friend and neighbor, Tim Presley and a special caring hospice nurse, Patty Boone.

Cremation was Ron’s wish.  Graveside service with military rites will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Abingdon Cemetery.  The family will continue to celebrate Ron’s life at the Abingdon American Legion following the service at the cemetery and everyone is invited to join with them there.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or to the Lane Evans VA Outpatient Clinic in Galesburg.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
