Man Reports $4,000 Missing in Trading Card Theft

galesburgpolicelogoGalesburg Police were called to a Fulton Street apartment at approximately 1:20 p.m. Saturday to respond to a report of theft. A 45-year-old male subject reported yesterday that more than $4,000 in assets went missing–approximately 150,000 to 200,000 trading cards.

The initial report was made by a person close with the man, who went to the apartment Saturday afternoon to collect the individual’s possessions, and noticed the cards as well as a television missing. It was later discovered that a friend was holding the TV for the man.

According to police reports, the man has been placed into a nursing facility, due to health concerns. He has cited difficulty moving his things out because of that reason. The owner of the apartment told police that the tenant had problems paying rent, but because of the possessions inside, it was not possible to lease out the apartment to someone else.

Multiple witnesses reported that the owner of the building was seen taking boxes from the building, however, the boxes are only believed to had been filled with tools used for repair work.

No suspects have been named at this time. Authorities are continuing to investigate
