Firefighters Extinguish Henderson Street Blaze

WGIL News Icon 250px cmpGalesburg Firefighters responded to an early morning fire near the intersection of Monmouth Blvd, and South Henderson Street.

Authorities arrived just before 1 a.m. to extinguish a well developed blaze in the basement of a 2-story wood frame structure at 567 South Henderson.

According to a press release sent by Fire Chief Tom Simkins, black smoke was issuing from all levels of the home, and the fire was brought under control within 15 minutes. Simkins adds that firefighters were required to open up interior and exterior walls however.

The home is reportedly being occupied, however, no residents were home at the time of the fire.11 firefighters from three stations responded this morning. No injuries have been reported.

Galesburg Police and Fire Officials are currently investigating.
