LaHood Talks Fight for 18th Congressional Primary

Darin LaHoodThe 18th Congressional District seat is up for grabs, with the primary election being held today.

The Republican candidates include Donald Reints, Mike Flynn, and State Senator Darin LaHood.

LaHood tells WGIL that going into the primary race, he has received strong support so far.

“It’s a big day,” says LaHood. “Obviously the election is for the primary, and our campaign has been working very very hard. We have a lot of strong momentum going into the race– in terms of endorsements we’ve gotten strong support. We’ve been spreading our message as well. We’ve been talking a lot about how to improve the economy in this country, and how to put in place mechanisms to not make the same mistakes that were made in the past. We are also talking about how to take on the Obama administration.

The Democratic candidates include Rob Mellon and Adam Lopez, both of which have backgrounds in education.

The special election is being held to replace former Congressman Aaron Schock, who resigned in March amid questions about spending.

The winners of the primary election today will move on to the General Election, which will be held on September 10th.
Polls will be open today until 7 p.m.
