Bent, James “Jim” C.

Bent, James PhotoJames “Jim” C. Bent, 73 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, died at 5:19 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at home. 

He was born January 7, 1942 in in Galesburg, the son of Eileen M. Bent.  Jim was raised by his mother and stepfather, Earl Lewis.  He married Linda Strickland in 1962 in Galesburg.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Linda; his children, Sherry Jones (Bent) of Abingdon and Jim Bent of Camdenton, Missouri; 7 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild and 7 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Fred (Sharon) Lewis of Abingdon, Merland (Diana) Lewis of Abingdon and Robert (Linda) Lewis of London Mills.

He lived in Abingdon most of his life and in Galesburg the past 12 years.  He attended Abingdon schools and later received his GED.  He worked at the Abingdon Pottery for 39 years, retiring when the Pottery closed in 2000.  His hobbies included fishing, bowling, antiquing, going to flea markets and the river boats.  He loved his family and his ice cream.

As Jim requested, cremation will be accorded and private scattering of his ashes will be at one of his favorite fishing spots at a later date.  To celebrate his life, family and friends will gather from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the First Assembly of God fellowship hall in Abingdon.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
