West Nile Virus Detected in Warren County

West_Nile_Logo_FnlThe Warren County Health Department has reported a positive match for the West Nile Virus in the area.According to a press release, a batch of mosquitoes tested yesterday tested positive for the virus.

The Warren County Health Department has been running lab tests on mosquito batches, dead perching birds, sick horses and humans with West Nile-like symptoms. Symptoms include headaches, muscle aches, fever and nausea and may last between a few days to a few weeks.

According to the Warren County Health Department, the best way to prevent West Nile Virus is to reduce, repel and report. Reduce exposure by eliminating standing water and avoid being outdoors when mosquitos are most active.Wear bug repellant and long-sleeves when outdoors and report any standing water that may produce mosquitos to your local health department.

If you see any sick or dying birds, contact the Warren County Health Department and they will come out and pick it up for testing.
