Knox County Board of Health Approves New Hires Amid Hiring Freeze

knox county sealLast night at the Knox County Board of Health meeting, board members approved new services and personnel.

The Board of Health decided to move forward with hiring six new people for the health department.

Board of Health President Jackie Turner told board members that this hiring was approved by the Knox County Board because they started the hiring process before the hiring freeze was in place.

“This is just putting it out there to the public, that we are not doing anything we normally wouldn’t have done,” says Turner. “We aren’t doing anything against what the county has requested. These were already in place.”

The board also approved a new program called WISEWOMAN that targets woman involved in breast and cervical cancer programs and offers screenings for cardiovascular diseases.

They also approved extending some of their services as well, with talks about looking into finding a way to bring services to people who may not be able to come to the health department.

Board members brought up the possibility of sending a physician to locations around the county or trying to create a mobile clinic to reach people.

The board also briefly discussed the upcoming Community Health Center Week which will be held August 9th through August 15th. The department is working on marketing strategies for that at this time.
