ComEd Makes Plan to Keep Financial Assistance Going

CHICAGO (AP) – Commonwealth Edison officials say they are working on a way to continue operating an assistance program for low-income customers who need help paying their electric bills.
The Illinois budget crisis has caused a shutdown at CEDA, the agency that administers ComEd’s CARE program.

ComEd issued a news release Friday saying it is preparing to open satellite locations and hire additional workers to process CARE applications if the shutdown continues.

The CARE program helps military families, veterans, senior citizens and others who are struggling to pay their electric bills. This is the fourth year in a row that ComEd has provided $10 million in financial assistance. Eligibility requirements are available online or by calling 1-888-806-CARE (2273).

ComEd provides service to approximately 3.8 million customers across northern Illinois.
