U.S. Army Brings Back Buddy Program

armylogoThe U.S. Army is bringing back the Buddy Program, which would allow applicants to enlist and serve with a friend.Galesburg Staff Sergeant Jonathan Blanton tells Galesburg Live on WGIL that it allows friends to serve together for at least a year.

“Basically, this is for applicants who would like to serve with a friend,” says Sergeant Blanton. “We’re re-instating this program to allow buddies, as we like to call it because we’re battle buddies, it allows buddies to enlist together in the same job and attend training together and they are actually assigned in the same location for at least 12 months. You can enlist with two, three, four of your buddies and go to training together and be stationed together at the same place.”

Sergeant Blanton says finding a qualified applicant is very tricky and that three out of ten applicants can be qualified, but only a tenth of a percent will actually serve.

Sergeant Blanton says qualifications include being physically fit, being smart enough and having good morals.
