ID Distinction Available for Knox County Veterans

veteransVeterans in Knox County and across the State of Illinois now have the opportunity to better display their service publicly.

A designation of the word “Veteran” displayed under the signature of the front of either a drivers license or ID card is available for those who wish to upgrade.

The designation is available at no additional cost to first time DL applicants or on license renewals. The certification went into effect July 1st for all veterans.

David Druker, Press Secretary for the Secretary of State Jesse White, tells WGIL, that so far the response from those who have served has been positive.

“Early on it’s been well received, so we’re encouraged,” says Druker. “There are a number of benefits that people who have served in the military are entitled to. Sometimes it’s a reduced price on food at a restaurant, or a job training program. This helps to move them in that direction.”

Druker adds that the distinction is a way for the state to thank vets for their service. Those wishing to receive the distinction locally, can visit the Galesburg office of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. A Certification of Military Service is needed for verification. From there, vets can visit any Driver Service’s facility in the state to apply for their desired identification.
