Budget Standoff Affecting University of Illinois Finances

URBANA, Ill. (AP) – University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana administrators say they normally at this time would be drafting a budget for fiscal year 2017 but they’re not because of the state budget crisis.
The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports administrators told trustees Monday there’s no point in preparing a state funding request for 2017 when the school doesn’t know how much money it will receive from the state in 2016.
Democratic lawmakers are at a standoff with GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner over a state budget. There fiscal year ended two weeks ago.

The UI has said it will meet July 15 payroll. A university spokesman said the school has 180 days of cash on hand and expects to receive $114 million that the state has yet to appropriate to it from fiscal year 2015.
