The Latest: House Hears Budget Comments from Parents, Groups

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Parents of children with disabilities and organizers of state-funded programs helping survivors of domestic abuse are testifying in the Illinois House about how the budget impasse is affecting them. Groups say their employees are taking furloughs, extending lines of credit and are left in limbo without a state budget. Some provide care to children with disabilities, others help survivors of domestic abuse.

Illinois lawmakers and Gov. Bruce Rauner remain deadlocked on a spending plan for the fiscal year that began in July. Overtime sessions in Springfield haven’t produced an agreement.

Also, an official with Lincoln’s Challenge Academy in Rantoul testified Wednesday about losing state funding and losing pay. The academy helps provide youth with job skills and other training and is run by active members of the Illinois National Guard and retired military personnel.
