Accused Champaign Officer Must Wear Tracking Bracelet

URBANA, Ill. (AP) — A Champaign police officer charged with sexually assaulting three former girlfriends must wear a tracking bracelet and stay away from their homes.

According to The News-Gazette, a judge on Wednesday allowed Jared Gale’s mother to post $65,000 to secure his release on bond. But the judge also ordered him to wear the GPS-tracking bracelet and stay at least 500 feet away from the homes’ of the women.

Gale has pleaded not guilty to criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated domestic battery. He has been charged in Champaign and Piatt counties.

Gale was arrested last month after one former girlfriend accused him of assaulting her in 2013. Two other former girlfriends have made similar accusations.

Gale was Champaign’s officer of the year in 2014.
