Illini Baseball Coach Gets Raise after Record Year

illiniCHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) – The University of Illinois says baseball coach Dan Hartleb has been given a raise and a five-year contract extension after leading his team to an NCAA regional championship.
The school said in a news release Wednesday that Hartleb’s contract has been extended through 2020, pending university trustees’ approval.

University spokeswoman Robin Kaler added that the raise would increase Hartleb’s pay to $290,000 a year. He now makes $155,000.

Kaler said Hartleb would be paid another $100,000 if he stays the full five years.

Hartleb said he appreciates athletic director Mike Thomas’ support of the team.

The Illini finished 2015 with a school-best 50-10-1 record. They lost to Vanderbilt in the NCAA super regionals.

In his 10th season as head coach Hartleb was named Big Ten coach of the year.
