Illinois Farmers Say Enbridge Pipeline Crews Damaging Land

HUDSON, Ill. (AP) — Farmers in central Illinois say crews working on an Enbridge oil pipeline have damaged their wet fields.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that a meeting is scheduled Friday among the Illinois Farm Bureau, Enbridge officials and the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

Tim Killian farms south of Hudson in McLean County and says Enbridge’s Southern Access Extension pipeline crews came onto his farmland and started removing wet top soil to make way for future work. Killian says he intentionally doesn’t till the land so it maintains its structure. Other farmers also have told the farm bureau that pipeline crews went into wet fields.

Jennifer Smith is manager of stakeholder relations for Enbridge. She says the project takes the complaints seriously and is in discussions with individual landowners and farm bureaus.
