Northwestern Trading Campus Shuttle for Public City Buses

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Northwestern University is getting rid of the private shuttle service on its Evanston campus.

Starting this fall, students, faculty and staff will instead be able to catch free rides on a Chicago Transit Authority bus.

Under a deal announced Wednesday, the university will reimburse the CTA for the cost of $2 fares on the No. 201 bus.

Northwestern’s Ryan Field Shuttle service duplicated part of the CTA route circling Evanston and nearby locations.

CTA President Dorval Carter Jr. called it a “first-of-its kind agreement” that will reduce congestion in the Chicago suburb.

Initially, Northwestern will pay CTA a maximum of $32,000 a month.

The CTA expects an extra 600 weekday rides on top of the current 2,000 weekday rides.
