Energy Conference Hears About Illinois’ Wind Potential

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — An Illinois State University professor said at a renewable energy conference that the state has the potential to produce far more wind and solar power than it now does.

David Loomis is an economics professor at Illinois State and director of its Center for Renewable Energy. According to WJBC radio, he said Thursday that A recent U.S. Department of Energy study indicated that Illinois has the potential to become the nation’s No. 2 wind-energy producer behind Texas between 2030 and 2050.

Loomis also talked about solar energy projects such as a school in Farmington that turned much of its roof into space for solar panels. He said other schools could do the same.

The conference brought together experts on renewable energy from around the state.
