IDHS Caseworker Arrested, Charged with Selling LINK Cards

CHICAGO (AP) — Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office is accusing a former Illinois Department of Human Services caseworker of misappropriating more than $300,000 in assistance intended to help needy families buy food.

Madigan’s office said 63-year-old Debra Moore pleaded not guilty Thursday in Cook County Criminal Court to charges of stealing more than $100,000 from the government and official misconduct. Authorities say Moore has been living in Texas, but was arrested Wednesday in Chicago.

She is accused of selling LINK cards and adding more than $300,000 in unauthorized benefits to accounts of family and friends in exchange for cash payments while working as an IDHS caseworker at the Woodlawn Family Community Resource Center between 2004 and 2013.

Moore’s bond was set at $50,000.

It was not immediately known if she has legal representation.
