Judge Rejects Change of Venue Request for Former Prosecutor

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — A western Illinois judge has rejected a request to move the murder trial of a former Adams County prosecutor.

The Quincy Herald-Whig reports Cass County Judge Bob Hardwick announced Thursday he has rejected a defense motion to move Curtis Lovelace’s murder trial. Hardwick said Lovelace’s attorneys failed to prove that Lovelace couldn’t get a fair trial in Quincy because of massive pre-trial media coverage.

Lovelace was charged with first-degree murder in August 2014 in the suffocation death of his first wife, 38-year-old Cory Lovelace, eight years earlier. He is scheduled to go on trial Sept. 21.

Lovelace, a former Adams County assistant state’s attorney, was on the state’s attorney’s staff at the time of his wife’s death. He also is a former Quincy school board member.
