3-year-old Peoria Boy Dies After Being Found in River

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — A 3-year-old boy has died after being found unresponsive in the Illinois River in Peoria.

The Peoria County coroner identified the boy as Ravante L. Ward.

Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says the boy was one of eight children brought from a daycare center to a riverside recreation center for a day trip.

No cause of death has yet been determined, but Ingersoll told the (Peoria) Journal Star that there were no obvious sings of injury. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.

Police spokeswoman Amy Dotson says officers were called to the area after adults who noticed the boy was missing found him in the water.

The river is well above flood stage.

The Park District, which owns the site, says one of its lifeguards performed CPR on the boy.
