ROCK FALLS, Ill. (AP) — The manager of a county-owned airport in northwestern Illinois says it’s time to replace a terminal that’s nearly 50 years old.
Sauk Valley Media reports that Whiteside County Airport Manager Mike Dowell is recommending that county leaders consider replacing a terminal built in 1967.
Problems cited by Dowell in his report to elected officials include worn carpeting that’s more than 20 years old and which threatens to become a “health and safety issue.”
Cracked asphalt and faded runway lines in need of repainting are among the other problems identified.
The report also says the airport “does not set a good first impression” to visitors and doesn’t compare favorably to other small airports.
