Private Developer Offers to Buy 3 Bloomington Golf Courses

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) – A private developer wants to buy the city of Bloomington’s three golf courses or manage them if the city decides to retain ownership.
The Pantagraph in Bloomington reports that Jim Pearson is advocating that the city privatize all three of its courses — The Den at Fox Creek, Prairie Vista and Highland Park.

He’s offering to buy all three of the 18-hole courses through his development firm, The Vantage Group.

City Manager David Hales referred Pearson to the city’s community budget task force, which is looking for ways to close the city’s projected $7 million deficit for next year.

That includes possibly closing Highland Park, the least profitable course.
It will present recommendations at a council work session on Sept. 14.

Pearson says he feels Highland Park is viable.
