Self JamesJames M. Self, age 80, of Williamsfield, Illinois died at 3:13 A.M. on Friday, July 17, 2015 at OSF ST. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

He was born on June 15, 1935 in Kirksville, Missouri the son of Otha J. and Opal Marie Spence Self. He attended and graduated from the Williamsfield High School. He married Nancy Stodgel on June 23, 1956 at the Williamsfield United Methodist Church in Williamsfield, Illinois.

Surviving is his wife, Nancy Self of Williamsfield, Illinois; his children: James Michael (Elaine Marie) Self of Springfield, Illinois, Mitchel Blane (Beth Anne) Self of Virginia, Illinois, Kristine Luan (John) Rask of Victoria, Illinois, Timothy Blake (Lori Anne) Self of Victoria, Illinois, Madolyn Marie (Michael) Ott of Williamsfield, Illinois, Steven Kyle (Rita) Self of Henry, Illinois and Daniel Devin (Tifanie) Self of Dahinda, Illinois; grandchildren, Derick Dykeman, Dallas (Erin) Self, Tyler Dykeman, Brittany Self, James Dykeman, Nicole Self, Chance Rask, Brayden Ott, Cooper Self, Griffin Self, Gionna Ott, Hope Self, and Wyatt Self; step grandchildren: Robert (Meta) Rask, Jake Rask. Shanda Carr, and Manda Martin; step-great grandchildren: Lucas, Amelia and Emersyn Rask, Bode Carr, and Griffin Martin; his siblings: Jean Berry of Galesburg, Illinois, Bill (Donna) Self of Galesburg, Illinois and Jay (Janet) Self of Hudson, Illinois; brother-in-law: James Stodgel of Elmwood, Illinois; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Laura Lou.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator the United Mine Worker Union; he was a purchase agent for the strip mine at Victoria and Middle Grove; worked for the Knox County Landfill, retiring in 1999. During the late 1970’s he and his brother owned and operated Self Standard Station in Williamsfield, Illinois. He was an avid Cardinal Fan and a “Hands on” grandpa to his grandkids.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Williamsfield, Illinois. Rev. Jennifer Seder will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Williamsfield, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Inurnment will take place at the Elmore Cemetery in Elmore, Illinois at a later date. Memorials may be made to Williamsfield United Methodist Church, the Williamsfield Library, or Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
