Mexican Restaurant Among Shops at Upcoming Seminary Strip Mall

Seminary ShopsA new strip mall is in the works to be opening on Seminary Street by Knox Square and Volunteer Drive by the beginning of 2016.That’s according to Horne Properties Director of Leasing and Property Management Joe Rayfield who says they anticipate starting construction by the end of August, depending on when leases are finalized.

Rayfield Tells WGIL there is a variety of types of shops already started in the leasing process, including jewelry and a Mexican restaurant.

“It’s a really good mix, a healthy mix, of restaurants and retail,” says Rayfield. “Jewelry, loan services, clothing, and a number of restaurants. We’re talking to three different restaurants and we have one signed up already, Mexican style food.”

The names of some of the future tenants were accidentally included in the advertising sign, which Rayfield says was a mistake by the sign company. Rayfield says the tenants featured on the sign have not officially signed leases at this time, so their business names will be taken off the sign. Those tenants include Springleaf Financial, Kay Jewelers, and AT&T.

Rayfield says the new strip mall is “phase 2” of development in that area, which started with the original seminary square shopping center, and may include a third strip mall as early as sometime next year.

The 17,000 square foot strip mall will include eight spaces for tenants.

Rayfield says he is thrilled by the demand for the area and that the interest in retailers filling the shop spaces has been increasing within the last six months.
