One Dead in Monmouth Train Fatality

WGIL Breaking News Icon 250px cmpThe Monmouth Police Department reports that a man was struck by a train last night and has been pronounced dead.

Authorities received a call at 5:31 p.m. yesterday regarding the incident. 28-year-old Allen E. Bowling of Monmouth is the deceased.

According to Police Chief Bill Feithen, an Amtrak train heading West near South 8th Street struck Bowling who was headed South over the tracks.

Feithen says that at this time, there has not been an indication as to why Bowling was on the tracks.

Medical personnel transported Bowling to OSF Holy Family Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead as a result of the injuries he sustained from the collision.

No additional information is known at this time. Monmouth Police were aided at the scene by the Monmouth Fire Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies, and the Galesburg Hospital’s Ambulance Service.
