Beer Tent Dispute Coming to Head in Champaign County

URBANA, Ill. (AP) – The Champaign County chapter of Disabled American Veterans hopes people give the cold shoulder to the tent selling cold beer at the local county fair.
The DAV has traditionally run the beer tent at the Champaign County Fair and used it as a fundraiser. The DAV regularly made more than $10,000.

But the fair board has decided it wants to take a larger share of the proceeds to cover its expenses.

DAV Commander Marty Poling tells The News-Gazette in Champaign that it plans to picket the beer tent and hopes people will stay away.

Fair board President Mike Kobel says the DAV is well within its rights to picket.

Kobel says the board is offering to donate part of the proceeds to the DAV and other veterans groups.
