18-Year-Old Pleads Not Guilty to Quincy Shooting Death

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — An 18-year-old Quincy man has pleaded not guilty to a Fourth of July shooting that left one man dead and another man injured.

Gavin J. Masters entered the plea Wednesday to first-degree murder and attempted murder charges. He’s accused in the shooting death of 21-year-old Randy Bowser-Smith of Quincy and the wounding of 21-year-old Skylar L. Osborne.

The Quincy Herald-Whig reports that Quincy police say a dispute about marijuana led to the shootings. Police say a .40-caliber gun was used in the shootings but a weapon hasn’t been recovered.

Masters’ case is next in court Sept. 4. He is held at the Adams County jail on $1 million bond.
